This has been a difficult review to write. How can one express their reading of St. Therese of Lisieux as enjoyable, when this young Saint experienced such incredible pain? Lived her short life in extreme agony, yet welcomed each moment of pain as a gift from God? Here was a young woman, who was determined to become a saint! Yes, I very much enjoyed reading this text. I would highly recommend others to purchase this translation by John Clarke O.C.D., as he brings much of what has been written before about St. Therese into chronological clarity. In fact, I would have enjoyed having this particular text before having read others on St. Therese. There is a great wealth of information included within this text that is not seen in others.Not only has John Clarke offered chronological clarity, photographs, and a biographical guide offering proper names/description of those mentioned within the text; John Clarke, O.C.D. offers a Biblical Index along with the 'normal' index found in most text. The Biblical Index brings the reader even closer to St. Therese. Here one may bring themselves to a greater understanding of that immense Love St. Therese of Lisieux had for our Lord. For those who wish to study the life of St. Therese further, I would highly recommend this awe-inspiring text.This text is offered by ICS Publications (Institute of Carmelite Studies), Washington, D.C. There are several other texts available from the ICS Publications on St. Therese of Lisieux. Inside, on the very last page, there is a small paragraph on the Institute of Carmelite Studies with addresses for those who may be interested in the Discalced Carmelite way of life.
I was in a traditional Carmelite monastery in PA for four and a half years and this was one of the must-reads there. I found this book due to the fact the author is local and was promoting it on his Facebook page. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Some parts felt a tad more like teen fiction rather than an adult series. Some of the characters names and dialog, the occasional "cringe" moment due to that fact, it leaves a bit of an "immature" feeling on occasion for an adult reader. However, with that said, one does not know exactly how you would act or what you would say in a similar situation, so in this context, it does tend to work out. The story is amazing, and the character development is thrilling, the author has an amazing ability to describe what Heaven might be like, and aptly places the reader in the midst of many Biblical heroes and to be able to visualize Heaven as if you are really there! I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

We bought this for our nephew because he was very fascinated by stars. He really enjoyed the book and learning more about constellations. He was 6 when we bought it for him.
My daughter is very interested in the stars and really loved talking about the animals I wasn't expecting the book to be what it is but it is still a really good book that she will enjoy. This book is a photobook with a paragraph description next to it. There is no information on trying to find them, just a small story about them. The illustrations are beautiful. I will say this book will not be for everyone but for my daughter she will love it

I give this book 5 stars based on my son's enjoyment of it. I first saw this book at our Nature Center, and he so enjoyed it that I bought him a copy. I truly believed it would be too old for him (he's 3 1/2) but he adores it. I think because we go to the planetarium often he is able to really make the connections between what we see at the planetarium and in the book. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the information is very well presented. We also have 2 other of Ms. Mitton's books. While at first glance they may seem too advanced for the preschool crowd, I can testify that the preschoolers I know (my son and his classmates) really love these books and go back to them over and over. I highly recommend Ms. Mitton's books.

I’m not what I would consider a fan of Bruce Campbell. I know him best from his Sam Axe character off of “Burn Noticeâ€. But the title of his autobiography kept catching my attention, sticking in my mind. I wanted something light to read and took a chance. Confession: the chance paid off! This was a light and really fun and easy read. Not only that but Campbell was quite clever in some ways in how he used little pics to illustrate some humorous anecdotes, like the old-school e-mail messages from odd ducks or drawings of contraptions that he and his pal Sam Raimi would rig up to make their movies. Campbell has a great sense of humor, very self-deprecating, and is very down-to-earth. He chronicles his childhood and his early films and gives ample space to his friends, none moreso than childhood friend and film making partner Sam Raimi. In some ways this book doubles as a biography of Sam Raimi! Another thing Campbell’s book does is show the not so glamorous behind-the-scenes of what it’s like to hustle making independent films and the brutal business and busyness of television. It’s enough to scare one off!There are different additions of this book. I’ve no idea how much bonus material the newest edition includes but the ones with “the chins across America tour†bonus material is worth your effort. It details his bookselling tour and the weird, wild, and sometimes wonderful things that happened to him on the tour. Do you remember that time that he sat down and chilled with a fox (of the canine variety)? Priceless.
Why should you care about his book? Whether you are a fan of Bruce Campbell or don't know who the heck he is, his book shows off a different side of Hollywood. Sure, most of his anecdotes take place outside of the glitzy town, but the sentiment remains. As one of the "working stiffs", he puts the effort that goes into the making of movies and TV shows front and center, without downplaying the importance of the people behind the scenes.I've seen a bunch of stuff with Bruce Campbell in it. This book showed me just how prolific of an actor he is, and it only goes through the late 90s! While he focuses on how he got into acting and the first Evil Dead movie, there are stories about so many different projects. I like that it gives a range because it gives a good idea about how similar and different putting together a movie or a TV show (or small scale vs large scale movies) are.It helps to have seen Evil Dead to enjoy a large section of this book. If you haven't seen the film (or the sequels at least), there are references to the finished product that just don't make sense. Plus, it would be harder to appreciate all of the work that ended up going into the film without having an idea of how the whole thing turned out. Aside from that, it is a great view of how the regular people involved with these type of projects contribute. Campbell's knowledge of the various roles is readily seen and adds a lot to this insight.
First of all, the book is a barrel of laughs and a highly entertaining memoir. My beef is not with the book itself but the kindle edition seems to be missing some elements from the physical book and who knows what else. This version is obviously updated since Bruce Campbell mentions Sam Raimi's little film Spider-man 3 that came out in 2007 while this book was first published in 2001 which only left me scratching my head for a few seconds and wondering about time travel and Bruce Campbell's latent psychic abilities until it dawned on my overworked and over tired brain that the kindle edition was in my hands.The only reason I knew some parts were missing was thanks to a YouTube vid that featured the actor reading an excerpt from this book circa 2001 to fans in a bookstore. The excerpt which he read is not featured in this version which was the main reason why I bought this freakin thing in the first place!Mind you the three stars are not meant toward the book but toward this edited kindle version. I also bought his newest book on kindle as well and wonder how much I'm missing out on!!

I use this book to play gospel songs at the nursing home. The residents know the songs and we all enjoy playing and singing them. I would recommend this book.
The congregation loved these tunes over some of the other music I was playing.
Given as a gift to my mother. She found it easy to read and the songs old standards she enjoyed playing.
My wife was able to read the music easy and was able to play the songs. with out a problem. would recommend for some one who has some who can play the piano but was not an expert.
I ordered this book when I started taking formal piano lessons. I'm just in my first year (and I'm 50!) of lessons and I wanted to play hymns and gospel. I grab this book every time I sit down at my piano because I can follow the music and play the songs within minutes.

This is a very interesting and well written book. It covers several types of Bonded Labor in Asia. I bought this book because I had to write an eight to ten page term paper for a Criminology class I'm taking. I needed more information specifically on Bonded labor. This book definitely gave me all the information I needed.
This book is just as insightful as Kara's first book on the subject of modern slavery. The points made are clear and accurate. Definitely looking forward to your next one.
Bonded labour is the most common form of slavery in the world and Siddarth Kara's book provides a useful survey, drawn from years of research and interviews with bonded labourers, of bonded labour as it is practiced today across a range of industries in South Asia.It is in these descriptions and in some of the economic analysis of the bonded labour economy that the book is at its strongest. It is considerably weaker in proposing solutions to bonded labour. Some of his proposals, such as having a transnational police force in South Asia to deal with slavery are, to put it mildly, utopian, particularly given the current political tensions in the region, and problematic from the perspective of rule of law. For example how could the democratic accountability of such a force be assured? The governance structure that Kara proposes, of an oversight board composed of people from the Human Rights Commissions of the participating countries and some NGOs is far from convincing.Other of his ideas, such as fast tracking of slavery cases through the courts display a limited understanding of the relationship between continuing slavery practices and poor standards of rule of law: many of the effective solutions to slavery in India for example, are dependent on raising the standards of rule of law across a range of issues, many of which, such as the Indian compulsory education law, are not, ostensibly, about slavery.So while Kara is good on the economics of bonded labour and its practice in particular industries, he shows much more limited appreciation of the political, institutional and cultural factors necessary in slavery eradication. It is a pity that he did not work with co-authors on this book, to strengthen his talents and idealism with some hard headed appreciation of how political and social change actually occur.

However, it is disappointing to note that the author never bothers to acknowledge so many reports and research that exist on Bonded Labour in South Asia.By completely ignoring other people's work, the author tries to present as if it THE only research on Bonded Labour and that it is so important. In a sense, it is over publicized through media and academic connections than it really deserves. If it is an academic account, then, it must take fair amount of critical reviews of other researchers' work on Bonded Labour.Furthermore, even though the geographic concept based on South Asia, there is just too much focus on area, and others get only a few here and their notes and quotations.
