An interesting read about the riders adventures on his long journey.
Amazing story! He really saw Europe on the cheap. The old man traveled thousands of mile on horseback alone, sleeping out with the horse every night and earning his food and drink by drawing ang painting.
As a horse lover, I read this book long ago and am re-reading it again now. This is a gem of a book, well told and illustrated by the adventurer himself. Holt, aged 67, befriended this extraordinary ex-cart horse, and together they rode and camped across Europe and back to England. He tells of their many challenging adventures and of their inspiring devotion to each other. I can only fantasize doing what he did, knowing how much more mechanized our world is today than in the 60's. Holt simply saddled up his horse with a few provisions and a sketch book and started out alone. In our hitech life, this is a great book to read, especially if one appreciates England and Europe. My only objection is the new cover on the book, which has nothing to do with the story. The original version has Holt's drawing of himself and Trigger on the cover. Hopefully they kept the many photographs in the new edition. I'm just grateful the book is still available.

My 8 yr old son and I have read dozens of books on the American Revolution together, so for us the book didn’t contain a lot of “new†information - but it’s written in such a captivating and funny way, that it ended up being one of our favorites nonetheless! I did find it interesting that Shenkin doesn’t seem to have the most favorable impression of Alexander Hamilton...? If you’re the Hamilton fan that I am, try not to be offended. ; )
My son first read this book when he was 9 and he loved it. We have checked it out of the library a couple of times, but finally purchased a copy. He learned so much from this book - and laughed out loud along the way. Next he read Which Way to the Wild West and loved it just as much (we recommend both of those books to just about all kids). Two Miserable Presidents is the 3rd book we have purchased, and next we are looking at the Benedict Arnold one. Keep it up Steve Sheinkin!
I cannot say enough great things about this book!Here is one question for you though. Do you know who Ethan Allen was? I didn't but this book will tell you. I home school my daughters and found this book in our local library by accident. I thought it looked interesting so I checked it out. I quickly realized that it was a book I needed to own. There is so much to learn in this book! And it is extremely well written! Love the humor. Love the stories and people I never learned about in school. Love learning about Sam Adams and why the Stamp Act didn't work. I think libraries should have this book in the children's and the adult's sections. While looking up something else in the library with the librarians help we again ran across this book. I asked the librarian if she had read it. She said no. I told her a couple of the cool stories like the Ethan Allen. She brought it to her desk to read. The next time I was in the library she saw me and told me how much she had enjoyed to book too.When were reading this book my daughters did not want me to stop reading. They would even ask if I could read more. We all laughed until we cried about the Sam Adams and the Stamp Act.I have read sections to my parents. They borrowed the book and on their summer RV trip my mom reads it to my dad while he is driving. It has caused them to stop and see Fort Ticonderoga.Whether you homeschool or not this is a fantastic book that your whole family will enjoy and learn from.I have since bought other books by Steve Sheinkin. Love them too. I also checked out "Bomb" from our library and read it too. It is about the atomic bomb. Wow did I learn a ton! My husband is reading it now.Thanks so much Mr. Sheinkin!
I teach 4th and 5th graders. I bought this to share with my hungry chickadees. I brought it into the classroom, set it down to take care of some things and heard a ruckus going on. I turned around to find at least four students calling dibs on it, others pleading to read it. A history book that the kids are fighting to read?? ....You can't ask for more than that!
I am in eighth grade, and I thought this book was well written and humorous. The book describes the many battles between the Americans and the British in the 13 original colonies that the Revolutionary War was composed of. The book's main subject is about the Revolutionary War, however, the author divides each of the different people and battles into different sections to keep the story interesting. The book contains real quotes from actual people involved in the war and what their perspective was. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in American history or enjoys funny books.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. We have loved every minute of reading it. My 11-year-old daughter, upon finishing the book, said, "He is such a great writer! Can we read more history books written by him?" I myself learned a ton about the American Revolution that I never knew. We're planning to read Sheinkin's Civil War book next. What a gift to be able to share history with my kids in a way that is fascinating and exciting — not dull!

As much as I agree with the book's main focus: the importance of building relevant content as a way to market products and services to customers. I think the authors could've said this is a 30-page paper. Upon reading, it felt more like a long, long sales brochure for Pulizzi and Rose's prior works, rather than original content. With such a strong title you'd expect a more insightful book.The book is overly repetitive with examples like Red Bull and Arrow, being mentioned over and over. I was actually quite surprised by the good reviews posted, all five stars!! No way... something fishy...Save your time and money and just Google the subject to get the same general concept.
One of the main things I agree with os the fact that we, as companies cannot be at the mercy of the media gatekeepers. It always boils down to the media provider agenda and not truly to the advertisers objective. We have seen it with it this last year with the scandals of FB and the US elections. I recently wrote an article about how Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google, influence consumer behavior to pursue their own agenda. If you want to tell the truth about your brand, you got to be honest and do it yourself. Your audience will keep you honest. Why because you can say whatever you want about your brand, it does not matter. You do not control the narrative over your brand, your audience does. So the best thing you can do is join their conversations and built your brand by being truly engaged with both, the audience that hates you and the audience that loves you.
As the director of content marketing at Cleveland Clinic, the 2016 Content Marketer of the Year, and an interviewee for this book, I absolutely endorse it with all of my heart. It is an incredibly thought-provoking look at how marketing departments are being disrupted by the shift to content, focusing on companies that have been able to turn marketing activities into revenue-generating media/publishing organizations. I highly recommend this book to anyone working in content marketing, but more importantly to any executive looking to take their marketing vision forward. I loved every chapter, learned so much from the examples presented and I just got more excited about being a content marketer every time I turned the page! Fantastic work, Joe & Robert!
