I love this book! It is very helpful! I love that it is hard cover and the rubber-ish feel to it. The dust cover it nice but I always take it off when using because it gets in the way, always sliding off, etc.. Very nice cloth that comes with this(we aren't opening ours though). Amazon sells this at an unbeatable price!
Since Diamond and Pearl, the "official" Pokemon guides (produced by the Pokemon Company and published/distributed by Prima) have been released in two volumes, with the Pokedex being included in the second volume, with the exception of Platinum's guide which was thicker and did have a Pokedex. So I bought the X/Y guide realizing and expecting this. What is annoying is that, while pages for each location have a listing of the Pokemon available, there's no index at the back that lists Pokemon by name and points out what routes they are found in for cross-referencing. There's also no listing of attacks and items at the back, just a TM list and info on what the Marts sell. I know that the Diamond/Pearl guide had these lists, because I just checked it as I'm writing this.The guide is hardcover and smaller in terms of page size, about the size of a novel. Which means that the maps and font are smaller and it's much harder to lay flat opened to a specific page. I don't see why they went this route with this guide, especially for reasons that I'll cover later. As a walkthrough, it is fairly detailed, pointing out items, listing (but not identifying on the map) hidden items, and showing the locations of each enemy trainer and the number of Pokemon they have (but not their complete rosters; then again, these guides have never included them). Full rosters are given for major opponents, and detailed strategies are given for Gym Leaders and the Elite Four. The walkthrough only covers up to the Elite Four - post-game matters will likely be in the next volume. It covers how to use the game's touch screen and communication features. So as a walkthrough, it's okay - not great, since I would have liked to see an alphabetical list of available Pokemon as well as details about the attacks and items - after all, this is a new generation of games, so there's going to be new examples of both.So, why did I say this guide was of poor quality? Its construction. Like many of the recent Pokemon guides, this one is printed on semi-glossy paper with poor-quality ink that tends to smear. I was hoping that since this is a supposed "collector's edition" that they would have used upgraded ink to print it. What is worse, however, is the horrible binding job that they did with my particular copy. The back cover and last page of the book has separated from the rest of it after less than a month of use, which is inexcusable. And no, I was not rough with handling the book. The binding came apart through normal use. Of course, the fact that it is a hardcover made using it normally (as a guide that you need to keep opened to a particular page) difficult.I'd really rather they stuck with the old-style (paperback, full-size) Pokemon guides (except with better quality ink, of course). Because not only is this hardcover edition smaller and harder to keep open to a specific page, apparently it was designed solely as a collector's item and wasn't durable enough to withstand, you know, actually using it as a guide.
Any time there is a new Pokémon game coming out, I always preorder the guide book with it. It's just what I've been doing since Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The best guide book I ever bought was the one for Platinum. It was huge, but something was missing from it. When Black and White came out with their Hardcover guide books, it was perfect.When I bought this book, I was expecting something similar and in-between Platinum up through Black and White 1&2. The only thing this book offers you is a simple walkthrough of the game. There is nothing in the back of the book about the Kalos Region pokédex. Nothing on how they evolve or when. On top of that, some of the info in the book is also wrong, such has some of the Horde info. Much better off using Serebii for that sort of info. The book itself, while conveniently hardcover, is also quite small. Certainly nothing compared to the former guidebooks.If you're looking for just a walkthrough, this book is fairly ok for it. But if you're in need of more than that, you'd be better off using the internet for it and saving your money.
Three stars because the information contained within the book is laid out well, and is as good as the guides before it.I've read a lot of the past reviews and have this to say.1) No regional 'Dex is unacceptable. I got it, most of us probably don't need a national pokedex in a volume 1, but c'mon, give us a regional Dex.2) The size is atrocious. This half size book means they likely did half ass research on wether or not this book would be appreciated at this size. Let me tell you now, it's not! The larger books can lay open in my lap while I am playing; this small one is an inconvenience at numerous levels, but mostly because it keep flopping shut on me.3) A couple of the features from previous books have been left out. The main one is the "day of the week guide" and the easy 2 page summary guide, usually found at the beginning of the old books. Those two features are exceptionally helpful and are, sadly, absent.All in all, the information provided is mostly complete, there wasn't a lot of info on the legendaries birds, which would have been helpful (like how to track them?!?!), but I still used the book extensively.

This book has so many fascinating stories about the General's life and career. It's a lesson on leadership. I use some of his principles in current work as an investor. He said when everything is going really well, he uses that time to double check everything rather than get complacent. He said when interviewers would ask him if he ever worried about a plane just blowing up on him, he responded that there would not be much point on worrying about something he had no control over. Instead, he would try to think about what he could control, such as where could he land in an emergency and how he could quickly egress from a plane that was in trouble. Excellent advice. I was fortunate to have General Yeager autograph my copy of this book when he visited Travis AFB.
Gen. Yeager did his sound barrier thing during the month and year I was born. Growing up in the LA suburb of Burbank, CA, I recall as a kid on the playground at school looking to the north and seeing white lines in the sky. I watched these lines extend in slow motion. Every once in a while, if the wind was blowing the right direction, we would hear a muffled explosion. Had no idea about those sonic booms until we heard about it on the radio. By the time I enlisted in the Air Force in 1966, Chuck Yeager was a household name without knowing of his beyond-belief WWII escapades. Yeah, I became an AC Delco fan because of him. If you have heard him speak, you can "hear" him narrating this book. The additional insights from his wife, Glennis, as well as his friends and colleagues add dimension and validity to his words. This book was written by a pilot, who loves to fly. It is written in a polished down-home, backwoods dialect that is so endearing. It is no wonder that just about every fighter pilot that has come down the pipe has tried to emulate that soft West Virginia twang. Gen. Chuck Yeager is a legend. We are privileged to read his story in his own words.
General Yeager is in a class of individuals that includes historical figures like Horatius and Leonidas. Fewer and fewer men are entering that class. There are still men like Chesley Sullenberger but more men like Francesco Schettino, the Captain of the Costa Concordia, are being produced. Yeager showed courage and character in everyday life as well as in combat. The item that interested me the most about this book was his admission that he was a war criminal. This is an example of his courage and character and I am certain his editor suggested that he remove the information. Yeager writes, “We were ordered to commit an atrocity. I’m certainly not proud of that particular strafing mission against civilians. But it is there, on the record and in my memory." “If it occurred to anyone to refuse to participate (nobody refused, as I recall) that person would have probably been court-martialed. I remember sitting next to (Major Donald H. Bochkay) Bochkay at the briefing and whispering to him: ‘If we’re gonna do things like this, we sure as hell better make sure we’re on the winning side.’†Respected historian have done their best to ignore items like this. It does not conform to the crusader narrative.
Great book and a good read even the second time. They don't make men like Chuck Yeager anymore and if they do, they are few and far between. There is a lot of the science and skill of flying in this book and it gets pretty technical at times. Of course pilots will love it. I'm not a pilot but a man of science and a military history buff and I loved it.
It had been a long time since I has read this book; several decades, in fact. Reading it again was a pleasure. My dad was a WW II vet who served in B-26's over Europe, and who then joined the USAF when it was formed; dad was a big admirer of Yeager. Reading his book brought back what those early years were like; it was a different time and a different pace. Things happened quickly; when the jet age arrived new planes were hitting the skies every year for about a decade.

Mi hijo de 3 años no se interesa mucho por este libro aun. El libro tiene pocos dibujos y bastante texto y el español es algo complejo. Sin embargo, me interesa tener buen material para leerle en español para expandir su vocabulario. Este libro esta muy bien escrito y los libros con pocas imágenes ayudan a los niños a imaginarse el cuento y mejoran su comprensión lectora.He comprado algunos libros en español que son traducciones y el español es triste. Este libro es una belleza de leer, y eso no es fácil de encontrar. Lo recomiendo mucho.Creo que es como para niños de 5 años. Igual se lo estoy leyendo a mi hijo y el se esfuerza por seguir el cuento. Lo tengo que ayudar conversando sobre lo leÃdo, pues sino noto que no lo puede seguir.
Love the pictures! The stories are not any I’d heard of growing up but I suppose it all depends where you’re from.
We have several nephews and nieces that usually watch TV or play computer games. I decided to carry this book in my portfolio as I stop by 3 or 4 times a week to see them.If I give them the book it will be relegated to their toy bin as their parents do'nt read to them.Now, when I visit they ask if I have the book with me and we sit and I read to them. They ask to hear the same stories over again. I feel this activates their imagination and brings out their creativity and visualization as there is only one or two drawings per story so they have to imagine and visualize. My graet uncle would tell us stories when we were kids in the 1950s and I remember how we enjoyed listening and imagining the scenes.

I love this book, and the stories on it.Easy and fun to read. It has very few illustrations, but I find them to be creative and great.Definitely not for young kids, as the pages are of regular thickness.

This book was used to help teach our daughter geography. It was very helpful. I love the format and layout of the book. It didn't make her feel as it was learning. It teaches geography in a fun way.
I bought this item for my boys to study during the summer break. My kids liked it very much. The beginning of the book has several maps of the world then the pages that follow give brief information about ever country in the world. An excellent reference book to have at home especially if your kids enjoy geography.
This is a great book if you are a true competitor in the geography bee or you simply love geography and want to collect this fact-filled guide. Worth your money:)

When starting a raw diet with your dog I think its important to read ALL the info out there. This is one of the books out there that is most popular. I read it, and took a few things from it, but ultimately feed how I feel is best (I dont do veggies). This book and quite a few others helped me gain the confidence to finally switch from kibble to raw, and its was the best thing I ever did for my dogs. Dogaware.com is a great site for reliable info as well.
Wow what a great source of information for raw and barf diets . I feed all my puppies this way now and have seen a great amount of good . I feed them at first with dog foods like blue etc I think I went through about 6 different brand and still my puppies had Diarrhea and vomiting allergies and vet visits . I now have solid poops 2 times a day ,no vomiting an.d haven't seen a vet in a month. so if looking for a better option in feeding this is a great start also look into forms and groups. Truly the perfect book just as told, it's exactly what dogs ARE designed to eat for great health.My dog and relatives dogs have 'much' better health since recently starting this Barf diet. Some are old with cancer, arthritis, bowel problems, and in one healthy skinny younger dog a refusal to eat kibble. This book explains things so well, "very" easy to read, gives the 'whys' and 'how to-s', and much information you need. Dr. Billinghurst, veterinarian, is many years educated on dogs, his life's work...I saw his website with raw products and saw he gives online consultations for your dogs."Raw" - "meaty bones" are critical to dogs health I learned and will not hurt them, they would us humans but not dogs who are built differently. COOKED BONES ARE DANGEROUS!! Some raw beef bones 'not' good for many dogs, they're too HARD, but Raw chicken/duck wings and some others are good, also for older/sick dogs. Finicky dogs hooked on any commercial foods may need mincing raw 'meaty' bones in blender/grinder, or other tricks. Exactly what to feed and how is in the book in detail. There is even a section on proper vegetarian feeding and why its better than commercial cooked foods. Author gives all types of diets/ingredients and the pros and cons of each one. Book is one of best investments I've made, and cheap.
The book is extremely informative, and seems logical for the most part. The author gets a little too technical at times and is extremely repetitive. I don't know if this was done intentionally to stress the points or if just trying to make the book longer. I did like the overall message of the book, follow its recommendations and your dog will thank you profusely as it ages in a graceful manner with many degenerative diseases eliminated.
This book is worth every dollar, has a ton of very useful information that is more than worth the read if you have a doggy of your own that you want sticking around for a while. It's a bit biased, but I've transitioned my dog over to his new diet and he is healthier than ever!

Dr. Billinghurst provides subtantial information on the benefits of feeding raw over processed food and makes it easy to understand what is required to properly feed your dog for a longer and healthier life. Most raw feeders consider this book their primary reference. It is not an easy find, especially at a reasonable price, and I was thoroughly delighted to find it available at Amazon. The condition of the book was exactly as described and the transaction was simple and speedy.
excellent one; honestly does help many health problems. my one problem wasn't the book; that my dog had to have anything but chicken. that does tend to get expensive however the dog responded well health wise. (was also consulting a vet who could go holistic when a dog's health/ immune system would respond better.)

About the Author
David Hatcher Childress, known as the real-life Indiana Jones to the many fans of his books, is a captivating speaker and the author or coauthor of over 25 books. He has appeared on Fox-TV’s Sightings and Encounters, two NBC-TV specials, The Conspiracy Zone, and segments for the Discovery Channel, A&E, the Sci-Fi Channel, the Disney Channel, The Travel Channel and others.
