Well organized, lots of interesting information. Before reading this book I read T Rex and the Crater of Doom by Walter Alvarez (also a great book). Where as Alvarez's book focuses on how the discoveries were made to understand the Chicxulub event this book explains many of the wild events that occured due to it. (km high waves, acid rain, water evaporation, damage to the Earths crust etc.)
The writing style is a bit academic, but still readable. What the authors lack in literary flair they make up for with a thorough enthusiasm for the topic. I can’t think of any other book that does such a thoughtful and detailed job of explaining just how mind-boggling the devastation from the impact of a 10km wide asteroid or comet must have been on that last day of the Cretaceous. Some of the mammals muddled through the catastrophe, but the dinosaurs came to an end, apart from their descendants the birds. If the asteroid had missed, or if it hit a continent instead of an ocean, the dinosaurs might still rule the earth. But that, as they say, is history.I take one star off my rating of the book because, like other reviewers, I found the illustrations (drawn by one of the authors) to be a bit amateurish, albeit fairly informative. On the whole, a good effort—and you aren’t going to find this information anywhere else.
This book could contain photos instead of drawings for the illustrations. The drawings make the book look cheap even though there's a lot of detailed information
Content good summary, but presentation(paper,illustrations) cheap, and not the quality I had expected.
Interesting description of the famous impact. Detailed in the science behind. Easy to read. Images in black and white a bit poor of quality. Good overall.
Nicely written, unfortunately illustrations are somewhat poor. But it still makes for a good review of the whole Chicxulub theme.
