I have been keeping my lawyer-written will in Microsoft Word for over two decades and printing it out as changes are needed, but this year my wife and I decided to make some changes and I wanted something more in-depth. This program is very easy and it walks you through the process much like a tax program walks you through the tax question process. I do not have a particularly complicated estate, so the walk-through was pretty easy. I went through it several times, changing things slightly each time to try to get it closer to what I wanted. There were a few areas in the printed document that I would have liked to change, though. For example, if you have children, any common trust you set up expires for all children at the same time. (Yes, you can set up individual trusts and name the same trustee, but that seems overly complicated for the trustee.) And trusts dissolve at a certain age no matter what, so if you have handicapped children that will need lifetime care, you will need to look elsewhere. The program is DESIGNED for you to have to update it annually, or at least regularly, which is par for the course for Quicken, a company that seems to do everything they can to turn their applications into ways to sell you something else. You cannot, for example, define a process differently depending on whether any of your children are no longer minors or have reached a certain age. In the case of naming a child as executor, for example, you would have to list the oldest child as a second or third choice executor and depend on the first executor choices to decline to do it. There is also no separate provision or document for instructions or preferences. For example, you can define executors for the estate and trustees for any trust you create for your children, but there is no mention of guardianship (so you can't say who you would prefer your kids to go to) and no provision that says your kids can keep the cars you bought for them. I get the impression Quicken believes those types of things have the potential to void the will. I think there should at least be a separate document that allows you to state your preferences.Oh, the book is insanely long for the material that it covers.So....if you don't want to hire a lawyer, don't have a complicated estate and want a training wheels approach to creating a will, this program is pretty good. For the money, it provides a pretty good way to get a beter understanding of wills and what they do, but don't expect the end result to be exactly what you want.
Very easy interview process to set up your will and other important documents. There are some areas I would change as it will not let you leave some places blank to fill out later. Printing is kind of a pain in that every copy first prints the disclaimer information and instructions on what to fill out properly on the forms. If you are printing out several copies of the same form you do not require instructions and such with each one. A waste of paper there.Also used it to print out a Bill of sale on some equipment I sold but again you had to have the exact price and buyers name. I wanted to print up the forms in advance and fill out the small details later when I would not be available to the computer and it does not allow that.Otherwise and informative program and book to have.
I bought 2012 Quicken WillMaker Plus and instal on a descktop with Win 7 OS, after a few days of working with it quit responding(working). I called the customer support and the person who responded (an Indian)after several minutes of chnecking told me that if I wont to have the problem fixed I have to pay $50.00 to a technician. I was quite upset by the advise and I decided to buy 2013 edition instead which costed me only $31.49. I installed on the computer running on Win 7 and again I encounter the same problem - did not work.Then I Installed on a coputer with Windows XP and so far seems to work OK.So if you plan to use with Win 7 do not buy - it will not work.The book and the software are helpful though the Property Worcksheet would not let you type directly on it but you have to have Microsoft Work to uese for typing saving and printing.
I have purchased Willmaker 5,6 and now 2013 and each one was easy to use and the accompanying books were extremely informative and thorough. I have used the 2013 version when reviewing my parents' wills and because of this, provided my folks a checklist of a few things they needed to clarify with the attorneys who drew up their wills. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wishes to create their own will. The simplicity of use and the accuracy of the final product is a great comfort; knowing that wills can garner strong scrutiny and the Willmaker product will hold it's own.
i am betting it is a solid bullet proof document. Uncontested will. I am sure it will stand up in a short probate. And I did it myself. Leads you right through each section, provides BACKGROUND legal information on each question, your options, etc. It will work for me I am sure. and NOLO is always a winner. Been using them for YEARS. After years of not having anything other than a will and beneficiaries selected for financial accounts I finally got around to putting together a comprehensive plan. Quicken Willmaker took me step by step through the process and seemed to be very thorough. Maybe a bit too thorough. Don't plan on sitting down for a half hour and getting this thing banged out. It helped me identify a part of my estate that would have had to go needlessly through probate. Also, I didn't really know how to put together a Health Care Directive or Durable Power of Attorney before using this program. I now have complete peace of mind with my estate planning. (I just hope it doesn't have to be utilized for a long time).

This is a nice, reasonably sized book that suffers from a lot of information squeezed into a tiny package. I bought this book primarily in the hopes it would shed some light on the convoluted history of Christianity's Cousin It, Satan. Having grown up in the church, you tend to hear about the devil more than you do god with no real clear explanation of why these two dudes can't get along and the other, supposed 'creator' of his enfant terrible can't do anything about his formerly angelic progeny.I'm not sure how to describe the contents herein. It's a lot of information that is slightly narrative in structure but also of the dry, scholarly kind which presents many different figures, points, quotes, footnotes, etc. as both distinct and yet apart of the narrative. As another reviewer mentioned, this book is primarily concerned with Christianity's historical, real world application of Satan and satanic figures and how it has metamorphosed into the sort of cancerous 'us vs. them' mentality which creates such a rift I'm thought between followers and non-followers.The title should best be read as 'The Origin of the Historical Satan' in contrast to the mythical Demi-god we are typically presented with. Read this book for the historical implications and how 'satanism' (for lack of better words) takes shape in reality. If you're looking to debunk the myth of Satan as a divine being at war with god, you might want to look at other books which deal primarily in the spiritual aspects of demonic theory. This book still deserves a spot on anyone's reading list who is frustrated with the lack of transparency in the history of this religion.
Pagel's writing is always clear and to the point. However, her brush with the Old Testament Satan hardly stands the test of good scholarship. Moreover, her idea that Satan is socially constructed based on her analysis of the New Testament writings left me with an unsatisfied hunger, a need for more. I will confess a bias here, a bias against the fuzzy-headed thinking of postmodern scholars. If you can't explain it, particularly if it is traditional thinking, it 'ain't there.' It's in your head with the rest of the world. It was an interesting book, but Pagel's ideas fall short of the promise in the title. She has no clue about the origin of Satan.
This is a very interesting book that recapitulates the emergence of Christianity in context, detailed and vivid, from its origins in Palestine to its expansion westward. But the focus is on the use of Satan, first as a kind of gadfly or tester of belief in the Jewish and Pauline traditions to the "cosmic war" of later Christianity, whereby opposition from without and within are portrayed as intrinsically evil and irredeemable. It is beautifully written and fascinating throughout, but it was not what I was looking for.The evolution of the notion of Satan progresses from an angel who tests people for God, posing questions and proposing alternatives to the righteous in contravention of God's will, into the embodiment of evil, whether as a being or a force within one's heart and mind. Pagels explains this strictly from both Biblical and "heretical" texts, with a keen eye on political developments of the time. First, in the Hebrew Bible, Satan (or Bielzebub or by any array of names) is an angel. Slowly, he becomes the force behind sectarian disagreements, from intra-Jewish ones to opponents of Jesus' supposed vision for the Jews. He also serves as the source of evil to be found in GOYIM, or those who are not of the nation of Israel. Second, as Christianity progressively becomes dominated by gentiles, the notion of the devil's evil work moves from a) vilification of non-believing Jews, Romans, and Pagans, to b) the condemnation of those Christians who promote rival interpretations to one's own, ending in c) a question of what is in one's own heart and what causes one to sin.All of these notions, Pagels argues persuasively, came to dominate the consciences of the various branches of monotheism over the next 2,000 years. With the accusation (or "demonization") of the "other" as irredeemably evil and not on the side of God and his righteous, it creates a kind of solidarity and certainty in the face of sometimes overwhelming odds - and an excuse to treat others as less than human in a cosmic war. This makes her argument, in my view, essential reading.Nonetheless, I was looking for an examination of Satan himself, not only as a socio-political phenomenon, but as imagery, characterization, etc. As he appears in this book, Satan is a kind of morphing gravity well, a murky socio-political force. While very interesting, I was disappointed and will have to seek the other perspective elsewhere.REcommended with enthusiasm. It is a great review of early Christianity and crucial to understanding the monotheistic mind.

This cookbook is a game changer. One of my biggest gripes with Whole30 and Paleo meals is how time consuming the cooking and cleaning can be. The recipes are easy and straightforward. You don’t need to an Iron Chef to get them right. They don’t require super exotic ingredients, and as long as your pantry is fairly Paleo-centric, you probably have a lot of stuff on hand, already(almond flour, coconut aminos, ghee, etc...). I love that you can now peruse recipes by how they are prepared(such as, one sheet wonders, or one pot plans). I actually prefer Fast and Easy over the older Whole30 cookbook.Just a quick word for my fellow halal and kosher cooks, there are quite a few pork based recipes in here. I usually just sub out the pork for a similar cut of chicken and it works out great!
Pros:-Full page photos of most dishes-Variety in proteins used (chicken breasts, thighs, pork chops, pork tenderloin, ground pork, etc.)-Good amount of one pan recipes-Most recipes are meant to be complete meals including a balance of protein and veggies-First few pages recap the programCons:-Few traditional breakfast dishes--this is when I really need it to be fast and easy!-Serving sizes are much smaller than I'm used to eating. I feel it kind of steered away from one of the cornerstones of Whole30 which is to listen to your body, not focus on calories and restrictions. I learned to just increase the recipe by half in order to make it work for me and my family (2 adults, 3 small kids).-I consider some of the recipes neither fast nor easy if you're not used to cooking or just don't like to do it. A better describing word would be 'basic' because the recipes are unfussy and uncomplicated, but they still require lots of chopping, prepping, and cooking.-Some of the recipes have been outright bland. Most of them I've had to zhuzh them up with extra herbs and spices.
I did 3 rounds of Whole30 last year and started my 4th round on January 1st, so I am not a Whole30 newbie. The recipes are not exactly fast as they rely heavily on buying pre-cut fresh or frozen veggies. Many of the pre-cut frozen veggies in my local stores are not compliant (they may contain non-compliant oils or non-compliant veggies such as corn and peas). Some are also hard to find or really don't exist in a normal grocery store. I can't remember what recipe in here that I noticed that for, but in a salmon patty recipe in the another book it calls for canned sweet potatoes, which is almost impossible to find without added sugar. I made the orange chicken last night and because I had to cut up everything, it took me about 45 minutes and the dish was just okay. Also, I am not a big salad eater and about 1/4 of the book is salads (no surprise there...there are one of the few Whole30 meals that are rather fast and easy). Additionally, another 1/3 of the book is asian inspired recipes and that is my weakest area as a cook. I would have liked to have seen more hearty dishes and crockpot type meals. I used a gift card to buy this cookbook, so I don't regret getting it as there are about 10 recipes I plan on trying (the sheet pan recipes look really good), but I wouldn't pay money for it. If you love salads and asian inspired dishes, this would be an awesome cookbook. I actually think the recipes in the Whole30: The 30 Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom are way better. And...if you join Facebook Whole30 groups, people share really good online recipes.

For some time, I've been wondering how to economically nourish my whole family (7 of us) with meals that we can ALL eat (AND not spend too much time in the kitchen). Melissa Hartwig's "Whole30 Fast & Easy" is proving itself to be an excellent solution for us!After receiving the book, I read through all the recipes, marked the ones I thought my kids would like, and then had my pickiest eater (8 year-old son) look through the recipes I selected and pick the meals he thought looked good. I was very pleased that he chose 54 new recipes for our family to try! :) I put together a 30-day dinner menu and purchased ingredients for the first week (which is coming to and end as I right this review). Because I already had on hand many of the ingredients in the recipes we chose, I only spent $35 for 6 nights of dinners (+1 night of leftovers) for our family of 7. That is awesome and so far, EVERY RECIPE I'VE MADE HAS BEEN SOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!! My kids have been willing to try the new recipes because it wasn't just me that picked them out and they have also found them to be yum!I usually try about 5 recipes from a cookbook before I make up my mind about whether or not it's a keeper. This one is definitely a keeper! The meals I've made using this book have been super yum AND satisfying (which means NOT food without breaks). This is what I've made so far:p. 165 Hearty Chinese Egg Drop Soup - I was hesitant to make this at first, but it turned out really great! Who knew?p. 139 Roasted Sausages with Potatoes & Cabbage - I doubled the potatoes and roasted them on a separate baking pan than the sausages and cabbage (perks of having a double oven). This was surprisingly filling! My hubby beat me to the left-overs the next day!p. 171 Green Chili Pork Stew - Super yum! My kids suggested I add carrots next time. I enjoyed the left-overs!p. 193 Italian Beef Soup - So, so good, but NOT food without breaks. Very satisfying! Next time I'll double the recipe so we can have leftovers.p. 121 Roasted Potato and Kale Hash with Eggs - Superb! The spices really work well on the potatoes and the eggs make it satisfying! So delish!!!Tonight we're going to try the Thai Chicken Sweet-Potato-Noodle Bowls on p. 160. I've given an A+ to all of those recipes I've tried and I am really looking forward to making more "Fast & Easy" meals for ALL my family! Melissa Hartwig's book should have been titled "Whole30 Fast, Easy, & Sooooo Delish!"
I love all of the Whole30 cookbooks. My favorite part of the original Whole30 book was it's suggested pairings (make it a complete meal) which made your decisions about what to make certain things with much easier. The Whole30 cookbook and this are much more limited in these suggestions which is the only thing I think it lacks. Otherwise, it's another gem! <3
