This is a great supplement to the textbook. Too bad the textbook was not written as clearly as this supplement!
The subsections of this text book do not correspond with the associated cases. There are subsection titles after the cases, but it is unclear if the subsections relate to the prior cases or if the text is moving on to new subjects. I've been reading law books for three years, and this book is the most confusing, disorganized text I have had the privilege of reading. I don't have a problem with the content, just the placement (or attempted placement) of the content into the various subsections.
This is the 2nd worst law school textbook I have had to buy (Federal Courts will likely never be unseated from the top spot). Very poorly organized, and the notes after the cases do more to confuse the issue than clarify anything. I understand this is Conflicts, a known tough class where "right" answers do not necessarily exist, but this insult to injury is unnecessary. The book provides no context before presenting a case. The E&E for this topic is very good - and much more organized and actually covers numerous topics in more depth than the text. The Kermit Roosevelt (who is one of the authors for the text) supplement (Conflict of Laws - Foundation Press) is good, and definitely clarifies things - and he definitely hits on the high points of the text (though some of the book is his talking about how he would rewrite Conflicts Laws - which is actually really interesting - but will not be on your exam). Though the way the textbook presents the Modern Approaches (in a more disorganized, linear/timeline fashion) is probably more accurate to the way the law developed - it doesn't help the learning process. For me the E&E provided structure and got me enough background that I could put the rest of the puzzle pieces together.
Our professor used this as our course-book. It's a pretty good book though sometimes the notes after the cases can be confusing.
The book Conflicts of Law is excellent. The product was in excellent condition and already has served as an asset in my educational training this year. I would recommend this site for the purchase of further academic textbooks to any student/potential buyer.

Gary Thomas is a professor of education at the University of Birmingham. His teaching and research have focused on inclusion, special education, and research methodology in education, with a particular focus on case study. A good general guide for students on how to plan and produce a research paper. The book is a good, decent size not too small and not too large. And it does a nice job of covering all the basics on the process of creating a research paper. The book can be used starting from Middle School all the way to Community College level. Of course this book is not for the really serious research papers on the graduate level. But for basic research papers especially for say High School level, this book would be ideal.
Anyone about to embark on a research project in education or the social sciences will find this book invaluable. Thomas writes with a wealth of experience of supervising both masters and doctorate students so this comes, almost literally, from `the horse's mouth'! Moreover, it is all carried off with a self-deprecating humour and lightness of touch from which some of his more, self-importantly ostentatious peers could learn more than a thing or two. That said it covers everything the graduate student will ever need about planning and conducting a research project and analyzing the resultant data from either a qualitative or quantitative perspective. Along the way you learn all you will ever need to about different research paradigms, such as positivism, socio-culturalism and interpretivism and how much you need to consider ontology and epistemology.
As an instructor I'm a bit torn on this book...it's very basic. For those searching for very general introductory information (high school level or perhaps freshman year at a community college) this would be okay. For those at university needing to get up to speed, this would probably not suffice. It's simply not in-depth enough to provide sufficient depth. On the other hand, it's simple to read and understand.
This is a great "pocket guide" for conducting research papers. It is small, and lightweight. It has information for finding good sources, developing a research question, and formatting the paper. It is helpful for those who have not had a formal research methods class, or just want to brush up on their skills.
Mr. Thomas leads students down a path to research project success in this little gem. I would recommend this for middle school through second year college-level students who are new to doing research. While I have not read the previous editions, the current edition is a worthy text.

This book is wonderful! I bought it hoping to explore some new places and all I can say is each place ive visited so far has been a delicious delight. He shares the stories of some of the most remarkable restaurants, one is even an old gas station from the 1930’s! This is a book to buy for the secondary material Prof. Tabory gleans, and for anyone wanting to do further inquiry, the bibliography is very useful. By in large this is a collection of critical essays on the haggadah, and not a running commentary. It is a very good summary of some of the research in the field, and helped me to think about the formation of the text, especially in light of previous (rejected) texts in from the early Middle Ages uncovered in the Cairo Geniza.Having said this, this is most definitely a critical/historical work, and for those not intimately familiar with the haggadah text and rabbinic history, I would not recommend it. For those looking for a religious, spiritual and contemporary messages, I would look elsewhere. In no way however, does this comment reduce the importance of this fascinating book. However, it is better used as a reference/research tool than a text to use at one's Passover seder.
Each year at Passover dinners called Seders, Jews around the world recite a traditional Hebrew text (with some Aramaic), handed down from generation to generation for more than a millennium. That text, called the Haggadah, tells the story of the Exodus from Egyptian bondage. How and when did this text develop? This new JPS commentary on the Haggadah seeks to answer that question.Taking a predominantly historical and scholarly approach, the JPS Commentary on the Haggadah reviews how the Haggadah came to be the way that it is. The book sets forth an extensive essay on the Haggadah. It follows with the traditional Hebrew text along with an English translation in a parallel column. Some footnotes explain items in the text. Finally, 13 pages of black-and-white illustrations show selected pages from historic Haggadah editions.The JPS Commentary on the Haggadah provides a worthy addition to the outstanding and growing Jewish Publication Society library of commentaries, which include the JPS Torah Commentary: Genesis,Exodus: The Traditional Hebrew Text With the New Jps Translation (J P S Torah Commentary),Leviticus: The Traditional Hebrew Text With the New Jps Translation (J P S Torah Commentary),The Jps Torah Commentary: Numbers : The Traditional Hebrew Text With the New Jps Translation (J P S Torah Commentary),The Jps Torah Commentary: Deuteronomy : The Traditional Hebrew Text With the New Jps Translation (J P S Torah Commentary),JPS Commentary on Jonah,Jps Commentary on Esther (JPS Bible Commentary),Ecclesiastes: The Traditional Hebrew Text with the New JPS Translation (The Jps Bible Commentary), and Bible Commentary/Haftarot. Many of these volumes, particularly Milgrom's Numbers, Tigay's Deuteronomy, and Fishbane's Haftarot, are without peer for authority and completeness.Fans of the series may share my disappointment that the JPS Commentary on the Haggadah places so much of its analysis in the 69-page introductory essay, rather than in the footnotes to the text. In contrast to the usual volume in the JPS Commentary series, the introductory essay in the JPS Commentary on the Haggadah is longer than the annotated text itself. Many pages of the Haggadah text pass without any annotation at all. And not infrequently, footnotes to the Haggadah text merely refer the reader to discussions in the introductory essay. Especially with a text like the Haggadah, which Jews traditionally discuss and expound while reading, it would have been better to present more of the analysis in footnotes accompanying the traditional text.And observant Jews may find the scholarly point of view of the JPS Commentary on the Haggadah somewhat antiseptic. The author appears to treat exposition of the Haggadah in the Mishnah and the Talmud more as guides to musty history than as still valid instructions for a living religion's observance. Observant Jewish readers seeking an exposition of the traditional text might do better to start with a Haggadah from the Orthodox Artscroll Publishing Company's library, like the fine The Schottenstein Edition: The Interlinear Haggadah: The Passover Haggadah, with an Interlinear Translation, Instructions and Comments.But these are just quibbles. The Jewish Publication Society helps to fill a substantial void with this handsome commentary on this important text. One can hope that the JPS will continue to expand its library of commentaries on holy texts, perhaps to add a commentary on the traditional Jewish prayer book (along the lines of the fine work Or Hadash: A Commentary on Siddur Sim Shalom for Shabbat and Festivals).Each year with the Passover Seder, Jews seek to bring new life to their historical liberation story. The JPS Commentary on the Haggadah helps nicely to uncover the history of that history.
I have several Haggadahs. You never know what you'll pick up of interest. It's always informative to read the different commentaries and after all, the seder is not just supposed to be a great meal but a great learning experience. This JPS Haggadah is a wonderful tool. It is easy to read. It is loaded with fascinating, well written, and well researched historical information on Passover and the seder service. Did you know that there originally only three questions? Did you know there were entire prayer sections removed from the service? Did you know Karpas was an anagram? Did you know why the put nuts in Charoset? Give you a hint... it has to do with fighting a hangover! The service itself is beautifully written with great commentaries. Bravo to JPS and all involved. Well worth a look.
This is a very scholarly and well written book. I quoted from it rather extensively in the discussion surrounding our Passover Seder. Recommended for those interested in history Passover seder.Error. Error. I discovered to my dismay that I had used the wrong scale on several items. I reviewed every purchase in about the last five years and discovered several comparable errors. The changes should be posted within 48 hours. Terribly embarrassed about these errors.

PHD thesis, well written and annotated with historical perspective. Definitely not Artscroll, but very respectful of the material nonethelless. A great addition to the usual dry homiletic stuff.
